Moving Words

Barbara Ruth Saunders and Crispin Spaeth

Moving Words by Barbara Ruth Saunders

Moving Words is a 5-week course that brings together an intimate group of writers for guidance and support. You'll learn to recognize the physical and mental signs that you're in your own way and give yourself cues to free your creativity and enhance your productivity. Discover regular writing practices that work for you, hear your writer’s voice more reliably, and sustain the energy to complete projects.

The instructors are Crispin Spaeth, a choreographer, performance coach, and teacher of the Integrative Alexander Technique, and Barbara Ruth Saunders, an award-winning writer and poet who works as a technical writer. Crispin and Barbara met in high school, training together as choral singers. They created this course to share their discoveries about how bringing attention to the body brings more joy -- and often more success -- to writing efforts.

Crispin has used IAT in all aspects of her life, including in her years as a contemporary dance choreographer. She found that this process not only made her feel better physically but also opened new creative pathways, and pathways to pathways. Being able to follow our curiosity and analyze our work without undue strain is essential to developing a sustainable and fruitful creative practice.

Barbara spent 4 years as a fitness trainer before launching her career as a technical writer for companies including Apple and Microsoft, and she holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She understands that, for many writers, "butt in chair" alone is not a sustainable approach to achieving discipline in writing practice.
