APPril Showers…

Just because you can't use your mobile phone at the theater doesn't mean cellphones and Broadway don't mix.  In fact, certain apps are extremely useful in finding ways to enjoy a Broadway show on a budget.

Finding the Show:

Broadway.org - The Broadway League’s offical app offers information on currently running Broadway shows, a map of the theaters, and curtain times.  More importantly, it includes deals on hotels and restaurants in the theater district.  The app also has information on Broadway Tours in over 240 cities around the country - perfect for those who want the Broadway experience without having to travel to New York.  Users can search touring productions by show title or location.

Further Research:

IBDB - The Internet Broadway Database is the IMDB for Broadway.  This app has information on every show to ever grace the Broadway stage, from when it ran and who was in it, to who the production photographer was.  Loved the play you saw last time you were in New York and want to see if anyone involved in that show has something currently on Broadway?  Plug the name of the show in, and click through to see if any of the creatives on that show have a show currently running.  It is the best and quickest way to find out about the history of a certain show title, or a particular performer.

Buying Tickets:

TodayTix - This fairly new app is taking the Broadway industry by storm.  It has become one of the best resources for purchasing discount tickets to shows from up to a week in advance to the day of the performance.  TodayTix currently sells tickets in New York City, London’s West End, Chicago, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC.

There you have it – three apps that will make your theater experience even better.  Just don’t use them IN the theater!
